Salutations de la Chine!Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?
Hello everyone!I'm Pak长(PakZhang),a touhou fan from China, now I'm writing an article for Chinese touhou fans, about touhou and touhou fan's situation in France,or if possible, include other French speaking place.
I think most of you in this forum are living in the France,so I want to know some information about touhou in France from you,to make my article accurate and attractive.
OK,and here is my questions:
1、Do you think how many touhou fans are there in France?and Can you tell me an approximate distribution?
2、Can you tell me which way is you first time know about touhou?Do you like touhou official game?
3、Do you often join in the local Comic(or Anime) Show/Con/Expo?Can you give me that Show/Con/Expo's name?Do you often meet the touhou fans in those shows? And,do you think there have many touhou cosplays in those shows?
4、Is there any touhou circle\club in France? If yes,I wish to know their name, and the stuff they made.
5、Do you have any unique meme in French speaking Touhou community?
6、Can you give me some person who cosplay/drawing/arranging music/writing story/or any other things made for touhou?
And the last one is,do you think there have any touhou fans exist in French speaking Africa? If you know someone who comes from Africa, can you tell me more details?
Merci pour yor réponse! And if you have more information or interesting things and story to tell me,I'm glad to know,I believe with your help,my article will make a good relationship between Chinese and French touhou fans!

Hello PakZhang !
A Chinese person here ? How unusual !
This "meme" is not very popular.
I haven't a perfect English. Hope you understood !
A Chinese person here ? How unusual !
There's a few Touhou fans in France. Touhou is not very popular in Europe, in my opinion.1、Do you think how many touhou fans are there in France?and Can you tell me an approximate distribution?
I knew Touhou due to American guys who did Touhou parodies with ponies (My Little Pony). Yes, I love official games ! Fangames are cools too !2、Can you tell me which way is you first time know about touhou?Do you like touhou official game?
I don't know. The lonely french Touhou "meme" that I know is "Cieno". It was created when I bad wrote "Cirno" on Undertale France chatbox and Tabbender (a member of this forum and Undertale-France) played with this. Sometimes, I like saying "CIENO TEH STRENGEST !"5、Do you have any unique meme in French speaking Touhou community?
This "meme" is not very popular.
Er... no... But, on this forum, some members cosplay/draw/arrange music/write story. You can see this here: https://touhou-france.forumactif.com/f8-coin-des-artistes6、Can you give me some person who cosplay/drawing/arranging music/writing story/or any other things made for touhou?
I haven't a perfect English. Hope you understood !

Re: Salutations de la Chine!Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?
Hello o/ Must be hard for you coming here, I'll try to help you as much as I can :'D
We don't have precise numbers of course, all rely on personal estimations. As for me I evaluate the number of touhou fans around 1 thousand, a little bit less I guess. But the number of person that knows about the touhou universe is a little more I think ( around four or five thousand I guess ) As for the distribution, you always have more persons around Paris because of it being the capitol, thus more people are around. After I think this is evenly and randomly distributed. Ah and the number of people being online active does not represent the real number of people knowing the series.
I heard about touhou first by searching on the internet partitions for instrument. And then falling on a black midi video of a touhou theme. Then afterwards did some researches and found the series. I do appreciate the official games, especially the fighting ones, th 15 & Impossible SpellCard.
Often, I wouldn't say, but I go to a few Cons organized mostly by informatic engineering schools. I meet always at least one touhou 'connaisseur'. I think when you go in those kind of schools, chances are to find at least one person knowing about touhou. And one person = 10+ because the personn likely talked about it.
Honestly I don't know, I've heard some time ago about one circle with a team composed of at least one French personn.
To be honest and direct. I don't think circle and clubs in France have the same impact that in Japan for instance. 'amateur' works is not too developped to my guess, way less than in Japan. Still, some artists are doing great things. But don't live only from that.
That's still only my guess, I may be wrong :')
I don't think. Most memes came from the english memes / japanese memes.
I hope that those answers were useful o/ Good luck with your paper, don't hesitate to ask any other questions ;)

Re: Salutations de la Chine!Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?
Since it's a doujin game, Touhou isn't very popular in France. I think there is only a little few of Touhou fans here, unfortunately.1、Do you think how many touhou fans are there in France?and Can you tell me an approximate distribution?
I discovered Touhou thanks to this video. I'm not good at official games, but I love them a lot, and I try to play as regularly as possible.2、Can you tell me which way is you first time know about touhou?Do you like touhou official game?
Not really. Most of expos (Japan Expo or Paris Game Show for example) take place in Paris, and I live far from Paris.3、Do you often join in the local Comic(or Anime) Show/Con/Expo?Can you give me that Show/Con/Expo's name?Do you often meet the touhou fans in those shows? And,do you think there have many touhou cosplays in those shows?
But I can join some expos like Japan Expo Sud, and yes, I often meet some Touhou fans and cosplayers here, but only a few.
I don't know.4、Is there any touhou circle\club in France? If yes,I wish to know their name, and the stuff they made.
Sorry for my rotten english XD, and
I hope it will help you :happeh:
Re: Salutations de la Chine!Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?
Welcome to Touhou-France.
I can't give you a number but I think we are more than 100 000 french fans of Touhou but everywhere, not on the internet for some people and in different community.
I mostly play official games.
I went to "Mang'Azur" (it's like Japan Expo but smaller, and it's from Toulon) two years, Touhou.net had a stand there for three years and Touhou-Online for one years. Touhou.net had a stand into the "Stunfest" for 3 years (it's a video game festival from Rennes) but I wasn't there.
On all these festival I saw a lot of Touhou cosplay, particularly into the Japan Expo.
Like I said, we have 3 french associations about Touhou :
- Touhou.net, an association based in France, they created the actual french Touhou Wiki.
- Touhou-Online, an association based in Belgium, they are mostly on project for the Touhou community (they are in partnership with "thcrap" for some things).
- Touhou-Bohu, an association based in Swiss. I don't know what they really do but someone on this forum can tell you more about this.
Touhou-France is not an association but we do a lot of things and we are mainly there to share our love of Touhou with everyone by sharing our fanworks, speaking about all the universe and playing together.
I really don't know how many Touhou fans we are in France, but I think that all people who are in the otaku culture (particularly for mangas and animation) knows Touhou or use some Touhou's fanwork without knowing that its Touhou and what is it.PakZhang a écrit:1、Do you think how many touhou fans are there in France?and Can you tell me an approximate distribution?

On the end of 2008, my brother saw a topic showing some hardcore games and someone posted 3 Youtube links of Manic's shooters. So the first time I saw Touhou was exactly from this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Nb5Ohbt1SgPakZhang a écrit:2、Can you tell me which way is you first time know about touhou?Do you like touhou official game?

Since 2010 (or 2011, I don't remember), there's a Touhou stand on the "Japan Expo" (into Paris), managed by the association of "Touhou.net". This year, there's the same stand but in partnership with "Touhou-Bohu", and one other stand managed by an other association called "Touhou-Online". Every years I go to the Japan Expo for all the four days, except the two last years where I was only one day.PakZhang a écrit:3、Do you often join in the local Comic(or Anime) Show/Con/Expo?Can you give me that Show/Con/Expo's name?Do you often meet the touhou fans in those shows? And,do you think there have many touhou cosplays in those shows?

I think it differs a lot depending of your definition of "a fan". Seiken's one I think is the definition corresponding to "I've heard about this, but didn't make an effort to look more".
Still, French Translated Touhou PVs on youtube scores average around 10 000, including the video being replayed by the same persons.

Re: Salutations de la Chine!Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?
I have to admit I am rather surprised to see a chinese fan here. As much as I know, Chinese people have their own Internet that is not connected to the rest of the world... Sorry if it's just a cliche.
About the distribution... obviously, heavily populated areas like Paris have more Touhou fans than less populated areas. But I don't think there is a huge difference between the different parts of France. France is not large enough to have huge cultural differences.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3C-VevI36s
I like the official games, although there are have their flaws. I often play the games.
Well, there is Touhou-online. It's a french community that aims to translate every touhou game and doujin into french. Their organization is nearly professional (although it's not really profesionnal, they are all volunteers who don't gain any money for the translations).
We have plenty of creators here. You can find their creations here :
https://touhou-france.forumactif.com/f8-coin-des-artistes
https://touhou-france.forumactif.com/f29-satellite-cafe
I honestly have no idea about it. Many fans can play the games without anyone knowing it...PakZhang a écrit:1、Do you think how many touhou fans are there in France?and Can you tell me an approximate distribution?

The first time I knew about Touhou is when I saw the video "Bad Apple" (a remix of one of the game's theme). It was this video :2、Can you tell me which way is you first time know about touhou?Do you like touhou official game?

Re: Salutations de la Chine!Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?
I think that's the occidental country with USA to have the most Touhou fans I think.1、how many touhou fans are there in France?and Can you tell me an approximate distribution?
how many, I don't know exactly, but enough to have actually 4 active forums about it.
+ touhou is often quoted by french youtubers, especially by the video gamers.
I discovered it with the musics.2、Can you tell me which way is you first time know about touhou?Do you like touhou official game?
as I use to play stepmania (a dance dance revolution clone) I've listened to a lot of musics, including touhou ones and Iosys remixes, then I've read that this was a game series.
I think the first music I heard was "Marisa Stole My Precious Thing" (well actually, I saw first a MAD video of this song with Taniguchi from the anime Suzumiya Haruhi)
yes I like the official games.
that's 4 questions :V3、Do you often join in the local Comic(or Anime) Show/Con/Expo?Can you give me that Show/Con/Expo's name?Do you often meet the touhou fans in those shows? And,do you think there have many touhou cosplays in those shows?
- no, because there aren't a lot of expo where I am. the ones who leave near Paris are more lucky.
-
- I don't meet often touhou fans unfortunately even if I would like to.
- there are some touhou cosplays, but you will not find plenty of them, just as much as any other findable cosplays, like naruto, hatsune miku or whatever.
I think I find more superheroes cosplays in france, like deadpool, spiderman, captain america, characters like that.
well, except the association "touhou.net", I don't know any.4、Is there any touhou circle\club in France? If yes,I wish to know their name, and the stuff they made.
I know I was planning to make a touhou fangame, but with all the restriction made by zun, I can't for now.
you will not find clubs in france, the equivalent in france would be the associations, but that's not exactly the same thing.
I know the expression "arrêtez de me 'bullet cancel' les couilles" derivated from the expression "arrêtez de me casser les couilles" which means something like "stop pissing me off".5、Do you have any unique meme in French speaking Touhou community?
That's an expression that was used by a french youtuber "Usul" because he received a huge amount of messages asking him to talk about Touhou.
here is the video (he talks about touhou from 1:15 to 2:03) the expression is at 2:00 :
- Spoiler:
but I don't think that's enough popular to call it a meme.
you will find some on this forum.6、Can you give me some person who cosplay/drawing/arranging music/writing story/or any other things made for touhou?
there is a cosplay topic, don't remember where exactly.
there is a drawing section (with touhou-related and non-touhou-related draws).
there are also a lot of people who organize role-playing games, creating their own unique stories.
I don't think there are french artists who does music remixes of touhou.

Re: Salutations de la Chine!Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?
You already got some aswers, I'll try to complete.
Yes but there's some in Switzerland, Québec and Belgium. For Switzerland you may contact the association Touhou Bohu or Batatao in this forum, for Belgium there's the association Touhou-Online and for Quebec I don't know any associaton but Ethirbein in this forum live there.
If you count people that do not play the games, only listen sometimes the musics like another music, ... I think like 20 000 but I'm not very sure.
I discovered Touhou with Night of Nights, the remix of Flowering Nights. I play mostly official games and a lot the PC-98 ones.
The biggest Con in France is the Japan Expo, I think. There's some Touhou Cosplay in smaller con like epitanim but if you want to find some, it's better to go to Japan Expo.
There's Studio Okakits but it's only draws. I don't know another. The association Touhou.net is making artbooks too.
Not really, it's more european meme and european meme are english meme and english meme are USA meme too.
You can look at the stuff in this forum and the ones I quote before.
I know someone who were living in Moroco but he came to France for studying and he's not a huge fan. Except him I don't know anybody.
Welcome here ! And if you have other question, just ask ! There's some funny things about french community but it's not the best place to talk about =) .

Not much. The series don't seems to be well known in France, with its only fans being people often going on the Internet.1、Do you think how many touhou fans are there in France?and Can you tell me an approximate distribution?
France don't have any commercial, official or unofficial manga or anything about the series, except for some places specialized in japanese/oriental stuff. But even there, i barely find anything about the series. So i can understand why people don't know it, there's pretty much no way for them to learn about it besides the Internet.
I know about Touhou since almost 8 months now. I know it from a japanese fangame : Touhou Mother, by S-Tele, that have been translated in english. It's a cross-over between Touhou and Mother, a Nintendo trilogy of games that is my favorite game series of all times. I had to check it out even though don't knowing anything about Touhou. No need to mention i don't regret it :D2、Can you tell me which way is you first time know about touhou?Do you like touhou official game?
I knew the series' name before tho, because i'm kinda active on the "international" web as well, so i knew "U.N. Owen was her ?" from different YTPMVs (occidental MADs) and i actually loved this theme way before getting into Touhou. ^^
I'm going at "Paris Manga" and at the "Japan Expo" every year, but i only did it one time while being into Touhou (the next "Japan Expo" will start soon). And i actually didn't find anything interesting. The only thing i remember was a bag picturing Reimu, Marisa and Sanae with pink hairs, lol.3、Do you often join in the local Comic(or Anime) Show/Con/Expo?Can you give me that Show/Con/Expo's name?Do you often meet the touhou fans in those shows? And,do you think there have many touhou cosplays in those shows?
All i know is that there are some forums, like here, Touhou.net and Touhou-Online. There's also a french translation of the wiki.4、Is there any touhou circle\club in France? If yes,I wish to know their name, and the stuff they made.
Now that's a question for me i guess x) well, i can't think of any right now, except for certain quotes from Youtubers that have be re-used by the french fandom ("arrêtez de me bullet cancel les couilles" already have been mentioned). There's also a report about Touhou from an infamous french TV channel (ARTE), that is well known among french fans for being complete garbage barely having any research and only talking about hentai.5、Do you have any unique meme in French speaking Touhou community?
Also there is an occidental meme about the pronunciation of the word "Touhou", because for us, what would be natural would be to pronounce it "twohwo", so a lot of new fans (or non-fans) make the mistake. Since then some people are parodying it by writing Touhou "2hu" (i don't find this meme funny at all tho XD).
Oh, and there are people asking for the name of the anime X character is from. A lot of people don't knowing about Touhou and finding a fanart of a character will think it's an anime character, and ask for the name of the anime in the comments. So a lot of fans are parodying that too.
And, of course, most japanese and american memes are used by french fans as well.
I don't know much about the french Touhou artists (i tend to prefer american or japanese works), but i know some of them are really good. The others will probably be of more help here x)6、Can you give me some person who cosplay/drawing/arranging music/writing story/or any other things made for touhou?

Re: Salutations de la Chine!Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?
Hey there chinese friend! I hope you'll have a nice time here! ^^/
1、Do you think how many touhou fans are there in France?and Can you tell me an approximate distribution?
I can't give you a number but i'd say a reasonable number as touhou.net goes to a lot of conventions everywhere in France which conld show that there are touhou fans everywhere~
2、Can you tell me which way is you first time know about touhou?Do you like touhou official game?
I discovered touhou through the circle EastNewSound. Someone made me listen to their music, i loved it, i only remembered one of the titles she made me listen to which was Necrofantasia and when i googled it i was surprised to find the games instead of the arrange~
I love the official games!
3、Do you often join in the local Comic(or Anime) Show/Con/Expo?Can you give me that Show/Con/Expo's name?Do you often meet the touhou fans in those shows? And,do you think there have many touhou cosplays in those shows?
I used to go to Japan Expo Sud and Mang'Azur (can't go anymore 'cause i'm studying somewhere else now). I could find the touhou.net stand in these cons and there were 3 or 4 cosplays of touhou there~
4、Is there any touhou circle\club in France? If yes,I wish to know their name, and the stuff they made.
There is touhou.net who make fanbooks. Touhou-Onlines does a lot of translations and they provide a lot of infos.
5、Do you have any unique meme in French speaking Touhou community?
Not that i know of...
6、Can you give me some person who cosplay/drawing/arranging music/writing story/or any other things made for touhou?
You can find all the people who create stuff in Le coin des artistes~

Re: Salutations de la Chine!Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?
Hey ! Ooooh I've seen some questions so Here i come !
1、Do you think how many touhou fans are there in France?and Can you tell me an approximate distribution?
I don't really know, but i think there aren't many of them in France (maybe between 5 000 or 7 000).
2、Can you tell me which way is you first time know about touhou?Do you like touhou official game?
I saw a video in Youtube from a French Youtubers' group named Vox Maker and an AMV "Welcome to the show" with some pieces of the video "Bad Apple" in it. I found that interesting and I began to look some Touhou videos and play some games. Now I love it !
3、Do you often join in the local Comic(or Anime) Show/Con/Expo?Can you give me that Show/Con/Expo's name?Do you often meet the touhou fans in those shows? And,do you think there have many touhou cosplays in those shows?
Since i live next to Paris, i went to Paris Manga, Bakanim and Epitanime. I met Touhou fans and Touhou stands during the two last one and some cosplays too. In July, I will go to Japan Expo where Touhou fans and Touhou stands will be there too.
4、Is there any touhou circle\club in France? If yes,I wish to know their name, and the stuff they made.
Yes, i know Touhou.net, Touhou Online, and this one, Touhou France.
5、Do you have any unique meme in French speaking Touhou community?
If it exists, I don't know it. There are some translations of memes.
6、Can you give me some person who cosplay/drawing/arranging music/writing story/or any other things made for touhou?
In the different Touhou circles, you can find all those things.

Re: Salutations de la Chine!Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?
the problem of french memes is that there's not enough touhou fans to spread them, so that's hard to say that there is a french meme.
oh yeah, I forgot to mention this one. There's also a report about Touhou from an infamous french TV channel (ARTE), that is well known among french fans for being complete garbage barely having any research and only talking about hentai.

oh and now that I'm thinking, I don't know if it's a french thing only, but we often say that playing Touhou is like dodging rain.

Re: Salutations de la Chine!Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?
I'm pretty sure it's a meme in orient as well (even if they are more used to that kind of games).
Re: Salutations de la Chine!Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?
Hello comrade, and welcome to Touhou-France ! Hope we'll help ya !
As ColdKnife said, we can’t give you a precise answer, sorry. But in my opinion there are several people that know Touhou at least by name.
Most of Touhou fans live around/next to Paris, but I guess you can encounter some of us everywhere in France !
I discovered Touhou by looking for fan-arts on internet. It was around ... 7 years ago I guess ? But before that, I came across the very famous PV of Bad Apple, though i didn’t know it was related to Touhou at that time. I found out what it really was years later.
Yeah, I pretty like official games, even if I suck at danmaku orz … And my fighting game skills are even worse.
Also my favorite episode is Touhou 11, Subterranean Animism ! I enjoy playing Phantasmagoria of Flower View, too.
Every year in France you have a con next to Paris that’s called Japan Expo. This is the biggest anime con in France, but you also have some smaller expo everywhere in France (Japan Expo Sud in Marseille, Mang’Azur in Touhlou…).
I go to Japan Expo every year, mostly in order to encounter Touhou fans. Actually this is the best place to meet some Touhou enthusiasts. A lots of us are gathered around stands that are dedicated to Touhou ; those are our meeting points, someway !
Personally I think there are a lot of Touhou cosplays in con, especially when you consider the low popularity of Touhou in France. Plus, you can encounter more and more Touhou cosers every year in Japan expo, it's really cool !
We do have touhou associations in France, such as Touhou.net (the biggest french Touhou association), Touhou.online, Touhou-bohu…They introduce Touhou to people and promote its popularity in France. Plus, we have some french circles that work on Touhou, like Okakits. Every year, Okakits publishes a very well-made Touhou fan-book ; it also sells some Touhou goodies and merch made by the members themselves (straps, buttons… and so on). In the Touhou Community, Okakits is quite famous ! It has a stand every year in Japan Expo. Anyway, Touhou.net and french touhou artists/circles work together often !
Oh yes we do. You know, the internet French Touhou community is really small, everybody knows each other so when something happens, we all know it pretty fast. And there are so much dramas and strifes in this commu that it has become a subject of jokes between some of us. It’s not quite exactly "memes" but I’m pretty sure that if you talk about certain people/events to an "old" french touhou fan, he will laugh and be like "yeaah I know what you did there". Today our community is more calm but formerly we were quite turbulent so... We still laugh about past ridiculous quarrels and all !
We have lot of great touhou artists in France ! You have the members of Okakits (Kailisi, Velkia, Azumi-kun), Nekolinak, Axel… Who draw very well. And there are plenty of other really talented people ! You will find some of them on our forum : )
Yeah, probably ! I personnally don't know someone like that but it must exist.
I hope I helped, despite my very shitty english orz See ya soon, fellow Touhou fan !

Yeah, probably ! I personnally don't know someone like that but it must exist.
I hope I helped, despite my very shitty english orz See ya soon, fellow Touhou fan !

Re: Salutations de la Chine!Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?
I looked at your article (with google translation, so with some loss). It looks quite detailed and I liked the paragraph saying that you are aware of cultural differences, and differences of views and arguments. It shows that you are doing a good job, and the rest of the article convinced me so.
Keep up the good work, and thank you too for your interest ! That was a real pleasure :'D
